Baristar Devlog #4 - Rats, Currency, and Noises!


This update brings a personalised currency to creating a new save (if you have a save already, you won't have a currency symbol - I didn't put one in by default as it should not be possible to reach that state when the game is ready for release). Also added some little warnings for trying to create a nameless barista, or taking someone else's name.

There are also some super cute rats! If your shop is dirty for too long, the rats will come and scare everyone away.

Also, if your customers are forced to wait too long, they'll get angry and double your energy costs for a few turns.

I put in some little sounds and some mini-guitar loops, as well as some real coffee shop ambience.

But wait there's more!

I also added in an order of operations, so you can prepare and serve beverages in the same turn. Serving beverages is last currently so you can build up your store rating and so on. If it becomes an issue (i.e. if people would rather clean after serving to avoid rats), I'll add in a drag-and-drop order system.

And another! There's a loyalty card system in place now, so you can earn rewards each week of play. You can get a cash prize, or a card from any of the three sets (even if they aren't unlocked for you yet).

  • UI animations and sounds
  • Beginning of a narrative element
  • Make settings for music/sounds volume, as well as a custom playlist function
