Baristar devlog #3 - Upgrades!
The card shop and upgrade system is live!
The save/load system is now live!
Cleanliness indicators are also live!
Spent the time since the last devlog finishing up the code and images for the new cards, the save/load system and the upgrade/card shop system. Making the images took a long time, and due to the almost total lack of interest in the game so far, I put a bit less effort into some of them than I would have liked. This started out as a hobbyist project, so until it becomes a viable release I don't see the need to spend a lot of time on the images - as long as the code works.
Some things I'll add in before I work on the narrative side of the game:
- Creating a new game doesn't check if you entered a name or not, so you can have blank saves.
- Logical order of operations when playing cards (at the moment, they are only played right to left)
- Increase starting energy with the employee training upgrades from 15 to 20, and 20 to 30.
- Hopefully some card balancing.
- Possibly add some annoying flies for when your store cleanliness is at its lowest.
With the upgrades, if you spend the required money, you can have all sorts of neat perks, like having more customers come in, preparing more than one coffee at once, have a higher starting appeal.
Some of the new cards can help you charm customers into giving better tips, thoroughly clean the shop, or waft the coffee aroma out the window to help bring people in.
What I would really love is if people would make some suggestions around card balancing and UI design (my greatest enemy). A man can dream, but dreams are for sleeping (it's clinically proven).
